In a digital world where things move very fast, it’s important to keep ahead of the competition.

There are lots of different ways you can analyse what your competitors are doing.  First of all, when you are using the Google Ads platform you can see who is appearing against you, for the same keywords you are targeting.  You can get some understanding of how often they appear at the top of the page over you.

On Facebook, you have the page transparency section, which will show you all the different ads your competitors are currently using.

There are tools out there like SEMrush which we have access to.  These give us indications of what a business is spending online, what kind of keywords they are targeting, where they are driving their traffic to and we can also see the adverts they are using too.

Understanding what adverts they are using is key because it helps us write something different.  We can use different key unique selling points to get our messages across.

Other ways you can keep ahead, you can use Google Alerts to keep up to date with what’s happening in your industry.  You can sign-up for your competitor’s newsletters so every time they are sending messages to their audiences you can see what kind of things they are promoting.

Finally, you can mystery shop them.  You can go on their website and try to buy or contact them to see what the process is like.
