Value of latest Google Analytics tracking codes shown 14/07/2010 Websites may want to ensure they are using the latest Google Analytics tracking codes.
Google Analytics users have been told of the huge amounts of revenue they could be missing out on by not moving to the latest tracking codes.

In a post on the company's official blog, analytics expert Tom Critchlow explains how he came across a client's ecommerce website that was losing £100,000 a month because of a specific problem.

Delving into the issue, he found out that this was because the Google Analytics tracking code that was being used was an outdated one that did not support https pages, ensuring security.

This meant that a warning would come up telling visitors from Internet Explorer that their content may not be delivered securely, resulting in abandoned shopping carts.

The issue was fixed simply by removing the old code and replacing it with the latest Google Analytics tracking code.

Mr Critchlow said: "It's a simple fix but one that can have significant impact on your bottom line.

"I've seen plenty of sites that suffer from this issue so it's really not as rare as you might think!"

Meanwhile, Google recently announced that it would introduce a plug-in for browsers allowing web users to prevent their data being collected by analytics services.
