08/03/2010
Websites with visitors from around the world have been advised by Google on how to use the Analytics service to gauge the performance of different languages.
Google has shown users of the Analytics service some ways of getting more data about visitors using the website in different languages.
In the latest post on the Conversion Room Blog, Gavin Doolan, a member of the Google Analytics Team shows readers some ways of taking advantage of tools within the service to get the best data about international visitors.
For an ecommerce website, it recommends using the affiliation field to determine what language was responsible for a sale.
Language preferences can also be read from the visitors' cookies, meaning JavaScript can be used to populate field.
Advanced Segmentation and Custom Reports can be used to store the information, with the option of adding further variables for richer data.
As well as being able to look at data from different languages, the Google Analytics service is also available in a number of languages.
The company recently announced that it was adding six new ones to the list, including Bulgarian, Greek and Catalan, bringing the total to 31.
