Twitter bolsters web analytics 03/09/2010 Twitter link logging should bolster web analytics
Social networking site Twitter has revealed that it is to bolster its use of web analytics.

The global network will begin to log all URLs used on its pages as it looks to build up a better picture of tweeters' movements via links.

This was revealed in a public email released by the service underlying major changes to the operation of the network.

The email states: "When you click on … links from Twitter.com or a Twitter application, Twitter will log that click. We hope to use this data to provide better and more relevant content to you over time."

Data collated from monitoring customers' movements via links could prove useful to businesses wishing to track consumer sentiment.

It was also revealed that Twitter will provide its own URL shortening service. This will be part of a new URL wrapping service designed to make links simpler and, ultimately, more clickable.
