Surprise tactics to improve conversion rates
29/06/2010
A conversion rate expert has explained ways of improving conversion rates through surprises.
Websites looking to improve their conversion rates have been given some advice on what areas to try out something new or different.
In a post on GrokDotCom, Brendan Regan explains how it is all too easy to follow the crowd and employ tactics that are replicated across different websites.
Instead, he says that the element of surprise could help to improve conversion rates by grabbing the attention of the customer and then explaining to them the benefits of a service or product.
He points out that, instead of stock images, realistic, genuine images could be used instead, while inexpensive videos that tell the truth may be better than an "overproduced, flashy one".
However, he flags up navigation and the user experience as areas that should not be messed around with.
Mr Regan adds: "Web forms are too crucial to your business to try and be cute or novel with their design.
"Follow the best practices, experiment cautiously, and save the creative surprises for images."
Of course, whether or not a surprise tactic is being pursued, A/B testing would be one way of finding out whether any changes improve conversion rates.
