Placement of 'additional options' can boost website conversion rate 31/08/2010 Website conversion rate can be improved with considered icon placement.
The correct placement of additional options for webpage viewers could help improve a company's website conversion rate.

Additional options could include choices regarding the size and colour of a particular garment on a clothing store's website.

Such an example was recently highlighted on ABtests.com, which indicated that a considered placing of such icons resulted in a higher conversion rate.

Page A placed the colour and size choice buttons below the main garment image and a distance from the 'add to cart' button.

Page B on the other hand saw the additional options icons positioned to the right of the main image and much nearer the cart button, contributing to a better conversion rate.

It was also suggested that the use of colour blocks as buttons rather than colour descriptions made for a more engaging customer experience.

The website states: "Visual colour selectors provide better understanding of colour than words like 'Juniper', 'Pacific' or 'Fern'. By showing all size/colour options, customer is not required to click on drop-down to see available options."
