Focusing on core website design 'can improve conversion rates' 21/01/2011 The founder of an online business has spoken of the importance of getting the basics of a website right and how this can boost conversion rates.
One entrepreneur has revealed the difficulties he faced in setting up an online business and stressed the importance of focusing on core website design from the start.

Speaking to Business Insider, Lucas Sommer explained how even minor changes to his website - Audimated.com - have had a significant impact on conversion rates.

He revealed that initially, he had been focused on "the many cool things we could do" rather than the important and core functions that the site needed to do.

As a result, the company changed its web developer and reassessed the core functionality of the site before going on to rebuild it.

Mr Sommer stated that this is an ongoing process but noted "even with minor improvements we have seen a substantial increase in our user conversion rates".

Removing unnecessary fields and features is just one way in which the site has been able to improve conversion rates.

Earlier this month, Lisa Barone wrote for Small Business Trends of the importance of having a clear conversion path on a website, particularly for small firms.

She commented that creating such a structure can not only improve conversion rates, but can also help organisations identify problem areas with their sites.
