Fast load times 'vital' to improve conversion rates 18/02/2011 An online medical supplies firm has revealed how it was able to improve conversion rates after cutting website page loading times.
One online retailer recently managed to improve conversion rates by 50 per cent by making website page load times faster, its president has revealed.

Speaking at the Internet Retailer Web Design & Usability Conference earlier this week, Meir Tsinman of TheMedicalSupplyDepot.com said the business also saw a 20 per cent rise in page views, a 50 per cent increase in time spent on the site and a 40 per cent fall in the bounce rate.

It achieved this by examining the length of time it took for web pages to load and testing different ways of improving this metric.

Mr Tsinman said the firm had originally noticed that the site's third-party tools each took one second to load - and went on to note that research suggests conversion rates fall by seven per cent for every second it takes for an online page to come up on screen.

The website now embeds just seven scripts from vendors as opposed to the 16 it had previously been using.

Another way to improve conversion rates could be to allow customers to give feedback and contact information to online retailers.

Statistics from software firm Kampyle indicate that 45 per cent of those consumers who do this eventually buy something from the company in question after salespeople get back in touch with them.
