Did BBC use AB testing to improve website? 14/07/2010 The BBC may have used A/B testing to improve its website.
The BBC appears to have used A/B testing as part of its efforts to improve its news website.

The pages have been given a complete overhaul, with much more white space now, as well as more emphasis on video and multimedia content.

Writing the BBC Internet Blog, Steve Hermann explained how the corporation had gone about making changes to the website.

"We talked to audience groups, held one-to-one user testing sessions, and invited several thousand of you to try out a prototype version of today's new design. With this feedback, we arrived at the design you see today," he said.

"There's also been some major behind-the-scenes work on our production system which means we'll be able to adapt even more quickly in future, whether to the changing expectations of our users or to new technology as it emerges."

Although it is not clear whether A/B testing was deployed, Mr Hermann's comments make it likely that it was.

Furthermore, developers at the BBC have previously used the testing method for making improvements across the site.
