Boost teen conversion rates by mimicking real shopping experiences 05/08/2010 Bringing the social aspect of shopping online could help to boost conversion rates among teenage customers.
Retailers can improve website conversion among their teenage customers by using tools that mimic real-life shopping experiences.

This is the conclusion of a new report by market intelligence firm eMarketer, which found that teens enjoy the social aspects of shopping.

An analysis of teenage online shopping habits in the US revealed that fashion is the largest spending category, accounting for 22 per cent of all purchases.

eMarketer pointed out that fashion translates into social shopping for many young people, particularly girls.

They often ask their friends for advice about considered purchases and like to try on clothes and accessories before they buy.

Jeffrey Grau, senior analyst at eMarketer, suggested that online retailers use innovative tools to help bring this experience online.

"New online tools are emerging that mimic the way teens like to shop in stores," he explained.

"Some enable teens to shop online and instantly get feedback from peers. Others help teens mix and match fashion outfits."

He said online retailers looking to build up a loyal teen customer base should examine these tools as part of their website conversion strategy.
